Eco-Emi July 2012 Box

Eco-Emi comes to us with the July box, commemorating another wonderful month with this green monthly subscription service.  In-between tutoring, work, and studying Korean, here is July's box!  I will have pictures added to this post tonight!  Pictures are here!

If you don't know what Eco-Emi is, it is a monthly subscription service that delivers 5-10 green samples in earth friendly packaging for $15/month.  It is a great way to try out organic, natural, or just earth conscious products without breaking the bank.  "Eco-Emi is designed to be an informative and fun way to try and buy eco-friendly products and take charge of what you put on and into your body once and for all" (from the Eco-Emi website.  The day you sign up will be your monthly billing date, and boxes are shipped at the end of each month (usually after the 20th).  You always pay for a box a month in advance.

The July box contained the following:

  • Chocolate Dipped Mixed Nuts crunch bar by ThinkThin // $1.99/bar or box of 10 for $16.90
    • I really love fruit and nut bars.  I haven't had the chance to try this one quite yet, but I'm sure it's quite delicious.  Note: this bar is not vegan; the info card in the box states that this bar is but it isn't!
  • Pomegranate Deodorant Towelettes by Crystal Essence // $9.99 for 24 pack
    • We received some deodorant towelettes from Crystal Essence in an earlier Eco-Emi package and I absolutely loved them!  They were great at refreshing me throughout the day.  I haven't seen the towelettes in the drugstore, but I did purchase the salt deodorant from Crystal Essence because of the towelettes.  I'm glad to have more to try!
  • Lip Shimmer in Merlot by DeVine Lip Shimmers // $4.50 each
    • Eco-Emi is becoming notorious TO ME of not sending season appropriate colors haha.  There was another box in which we received a lip shimmer from Burt's Bees.  I received mine in Plum and it was the darkest, vampire purple ever - and it was in a summer box to boot!  HOWEVER! This is not the same predicament that was!  Merlot is such a beautiful color and really is a "my lips but better" color for me.  I wear this one to work almost daily because it is so natural but adds just a little 'something'.  Would definitely love to purchase more shades of these!
  • Lavender Essential Mist by Hugo Naturals // $12.99 for 8oz
    • I have never been a huge fan of lavender.  It's a great scent, don't get me wrong, but I never would go out of the way to purchase everything lavender scented.  But this essential mist is just the loveliest thing and I spray it on all the time!  You can use Hugo Naturals' mists as body sprays, room sprays, linen sprays, or whatever else you like!  I like to use this one solely as a body spray because it smells so good.  The lasting power could definitely be improved, but it's a good quick pick-me-up.  I would love to purchase a full size of this.
  • Soothing Caramel Bedtime Tea and Raspberry Passion Perfect Energy Tea by Yogi Tea // 1 box/16 bags is $4.99
    • The concept of the teas being for different purposes is definitely intriguing.  The Raspberry Passion tea has caffeine in it, whereas the Caramel tea does not.  I have not yet tried these - I'm not much of a tea person in the first place... but I do hope they taste okay!
  • Polar Bar Soap by Biggs & Featherbelle // $4.99 each
    • I don't think I've ever wanted to order from a company before trying their product - just a look at their site and I was sold!  I almost want to buy everything on their website (at the very least, I'll get a little use out of the coupon listed below!).  I have been using this soap since I got it and have been pleased with it.  This one has a very faint lavender scent and is pleasant to use.  I use bar soap to shave and this one is not irritating, though I wish I could see some improvements in my skin from frequent usage.  As a soap, it has a good creamy lather on my loofah.  However, the scent disappears off my skin once I'm out of the shower.  There might be different results with some of their stronger scented soaps, however.
  • i-Chill Relaxation Drink Shot by i-Chill Beverages // 2 pack is $8.00
    • This looks just like a 5 hour energy drink, which made me really confused as to what this product was.  It's supposed to help you relax and sleep better at night. So like a 5 hour energy, except like a 5 hour drowsy? haha.  I haven't yet tried this.  I am almost afraid to do this when I have to wake up early or have something important to do the next day.  Sleeping aids have always freaked me out, however, so I am always wary of these kinds of products.  I will still give it a try!
  • Agave Light Sweetner by Madhava // $9.18 for 11.75oz
    • I only recently learned about agave nectar and it really intrigued me.  I actually bought a small bottle from the grocery store to replace in some of my favorite foods.  One example would be CoCo Wheats - I use a good scoopful of sugar in my CoCo Wheats, so I am curious to see how the taste is affected if I used agave nectar.  This sample packet definitely won't get me much use, but I could use it in a cup of tea or something.
  • Blonde Coconut Sugar by Madhava // $5.19 for 16oz
    • Much like the agave nectar sample, this will only do me some good in something on a small scale.  However, I am very intent on switching my food lifestyle to more organic and natural, and replacements for wheat and sugar are my top priorities.  I am very curious about this as well and will give it a try.
  • Body Cream in Lavender by The Seaweed Bath Co. // $12.89 for 6 fl oz
    • We have received a handful of samples over the year(s) from The Seaweed Bath Co, and their products are good.  Personally I've only really tested out their seaweed shower gel which was very soothing (I used it when I had a really awful sunburn).  But I bet this body cream is quite nice and I will try it out.  And now that I'm on a lavender kick, I know I'll like the smell of this!
  • Calm Plus Calcium Organic Raspberry Lemon Flavor by Natural Vitality // $14.97 for 8oz
    • There have been quite a few drink mixes and supplements in our boxes the last few months which has been...interesting.  This is to help replenish your body calcium after a workout.  I'm glad Eco-Emi is sending a variety of samples that can appeal to a lot of different people, but I really don't know that many people who take things like this unless they work out on a regular basis.  Once I return to school, I'll definitely be working out at the gym frequently, so maybe I'll save this for the start of the school year.

Overall Thoughts of the Box:

I think Eco-Emi is still doing a wonderful job of appealing to a variety of people.  Sometimes with subscription services, a small portion of subscribers (primarily women) will expect more beauty or makeup samples, but Eco-Emi isn't necessarily touted as a beauty subscription box.  Honestly, I love the variety of products as some of them have been incorporated to my daily life.  And when I get to learn about these wonderful green replacements for things I use daily (the agave nectar, sugar, soap, deodorant towelettes), I feel the service is really worth it.  I find more worth in a monthly box by how much use I'm going to get out of the products versus just the value of the box itself.  Eco-Emi has really stepped up their game, and I would gladly recommend the service to anyone who is interested in receiving 5-10 green products every month!

I am a monthly subscriber of Eco-Emi and pay for every box myself.  Eco-Emi does not know I write reviews about my boxes or experiences, nor am I compensated for anything I say.  I am not affiliated with the owner or any of the brands.  These are my 100% honest opinions.
